 Relevance of energy for the Baltic Sea Region and the EU

Renewable energy is an important industry in its own right and in the EU energy security policy. The devolvement of the sustainable energy sector in Europe offers a very effective way for interregional energy cooperation, especially around Baltic Sea Region (BSR). The EU looks closely on BSR as an integrated part of the EU economy. Energy and eco-energy industry is present in all countries of the Baltic Sea Region, and is very important for a sustainable economic growth in every region of Europe.

 

A market design for the Baltic Sea Region based on the Nordic energy market model

This model provides to reserve and balancing out the power market. The energy market is open for new innovations which are important for the integration of the Baltic Sea Economy as an EU stability indicator. The most important points in the EU and BSR energy policy are:

  • Development  of new technologies and products in the BSR
  • Incentives for economically viable energy efficiency in the region
  • Cost calculations and financial basis for future power production in the North Sea Region and BSR
  • Existing and planned infrastructure connecting BSR with other parts of the Europe, especially North Sea Region.
  • The longer term perspectives of introduction of Smart Grids in the Baltic Sea region.

Today’s energy sector offers a high innovation capacity for the SMEs, OEMs, producers and partner institutions in the sustainable economic growth in the EU.

The BalticSupply project creates new business opportunities for SMEs located in the Baltic Sea Region.  The perspective of collaboration between OEMs and SMEs based on the eco-energy innovation and supply target markets are:

  • Energy cogeneration ( Biomass)
  • Bio-energy conversion
  • Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Offshore Wind Energy
