SSPA Sweden AB www.sspa.se is an independent, limited company owned by the Foundation Chalmers University of Technology with a staff of about 80 people. SSPA provides high-tech consulting services and research within ship technology, marine operations and waterborne as well as intermodal transport systems. SSPA runs three scale model test facilities and a simulator laboratory. Research at SSPA is focused on efficient, safe, comfortable and environmental-friendly waterborne transport systems. The fields Ship Technology, Maritime Operations and Waterborne and Intermodal Transport Systems are included.

 

Ever since the start SSPA has played a major role in marine industrial development. The major part of this work has been concentrated on ship design. Since the beginning, more than 6000 ship hull forms have been tested at SSPA, including both merchant and naval vessels. Today SSPA is an international consulting company, operating worldwide within all principal fields of maritime engineering and related sciences.

 

SSPA has been engaged in more than 30 different projects and networks within the EC 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Framework Programs. Today 18 Research Projects, with support from EC 6th and 7th Framework Program and national research agencies, are running.

SSPA has research and consulting experience from assessments of ports and intermodal transportation that includes studies of both the physical goods flows and the information flows. The company has together with Chalmers University of Technology developed a framework for analysis of performance in intermodal transportation. SSPA has also previous experiences of port securities issues and port development.

 

The legend for SSPA is to provide customers with efficient maritime solutions, which means effective transportations, low fuel consumption, clean and living coastal zones. SSPA supplies attractive solutions for the customers, not only today but also tomorrow and SSPA creates profit for the customers though sustainable, innovative and world leading maritime solutions. Success is the result of balanced optimisation and knowing the customers goals and priorities. With the use of tools, collective competence, integrity and the trust of customers SSPA will create customer value.
